Aston Martin Vanquish Roadster (by Zagato) (2004)

Initially, the prospect of this car has really taken me by surprise. I became convinced that there wouldn't be a Volante version on the Vanquish - the appearance of the DB9 Volante appeared to make such a car unnecessary. But I had been blind to the possibility of yet another special edition to come from the collaboration of AML and the Italian coachbuilders, Zagato. The front of the original Vanquish has been retained - all the visual changes have involved the removal of the solid roof, new rear bumper and new round rear tail lights, reminiscent of those on the DB-AR1. But unlike the AR-1, the Vanquish roadster is supposed to have an electrically folding canvas roof stowed under a twin bulged panel behind the seats although this has never been seen.

The car was seen in the metal at the Geneva Salon in March 2004 - although at the time, there were no concrete plans for production. CAR Magazine, May 2004 very much doubted that this car would reach production. Whereas, AutoExpress 21/4/2004 issue was confidant of 99 production cars, most of which, it said had already been sold at a price of £240,000 - how wrong could they be. I was personally very impressed by the Zagato Vanquish and I was sure that there would be a small production run - but sadly not. I believe this car has a home in the US.
