Although this car has European chrome bumpers, it
can be seen that this car also has a flat bonnet indicating the non
Vantage tuned 585EFI engine. |
The Vantage Volante was also made available for sale in the US (and some
other export markets) with the 585EFI engine also found in late non
Vantage V8s. This
of course was due to the impossibility of getting the more powerful
Vantage engine through the US emissions requirements.
These cars are easily distinguished as they have the 'flat' bonnet
and often have the ugly black 5mph impact bumpers too. Strictly speaking,
these cars should perhaps be described as 'Cosmetic Vantage Volantes'.
Some of these cars will have had their engines returned to full Vantage
specification and also, it is possible to have the rubber bumpers changed
to chrome - although this is quite costly as it needs some modifications
to the bodywork too.
The 58 left hand drive examples were all exported, principally to the USA. Of these cars, 47 had automatic
transmission and only 11 had the 5 speed manual transmission. As you
may expect, a number of the US cars have been converted to full Vantage
specification.
