In September 2003, AML moved into it's first ever purpose built factory in it's 90 year history. Situated on the former RAF V-bomber airfield at Gaydon, Warwickshire, the new factory is part of a much bigger site also occupied by Jaguar, Land Rover and the British Motor Heritage Centre.

Gaydon represents a massive investment in the marque with ample space to manufacture upto 7500 cars a year. Series production of the DB9 coupe begun in January 2004, with the Volante following in January 2005. The AMV8 Vantage begin series production in the middle of 2005.

Most of these pictures were taken on September 2003 during a open day for members of the Aston Martin Owners Club. I must add that the factory is not open to the public with the exception of customers. I have also visited the factory in October 2004, but was not permitted to take any photographs of the production line at that time.
The Facade
The view above shows the drawbridge over the moat that leads into the customer atrium and customer lounges. Designed by the Weedon Partnership and clad in sandstone, the factory itself is 150 meters long, 10 meters tall and 100 meters deep and has many castle like qualities.

Customer Atrium and The Street
Once inside, the customer enters the atrium, a naturally lit space two storey space clad in travertine marble. This area is ideal for display of the current model range. The first picture shows a 007 Vanquish, AMV8 concept and pre-war Aston. In the second view taken a year later, shows a production DB9 and sectioned DB9. Leading from the atrium is the street; a double height walkway that leads past the open plan office accommodation on route to the factory floor. The two storey wall is decorated with huge Aston Martin images; below are displayed classic Aston Martins.

Workers facilities
Not normally seen by visitors are the facilities provided by those who work for Aston Martin. The factory has a restaurant capable of feeding over 1000 people daily and there is a small newsagents shop too.
