Aston Martin DB6 Volante (1966 - 1969)

The convertible version of the DB6 was unveiled at the 1966 London Motor Show and replaced the short lived, short wheelbase Volante. As with all drophead Astons, the DB6 Volante was the absolute height of elegance. The example above was photographed in the Coys Auction at the Silverstone Historic Festival in 2000.
This car, photographed on the Aston Martin stand at the 1998 Coys festival had just completed a major rebuild at Works Service. Their timeless elegance and relative rarity, with only 140 produced (29 received the more powerful Vantage engine), has ensured that these are amongst the most desirable Astons ever. db6 volante

Quite unusual to see a DB6 or Volante on the race track, as lightweight DB4's are preferred by many competitors. So this mildly modified DB6 Volante which competed in the FPD Savills Race at the AMOC 40th Anniversary meeting in June 1999 was doubly surprising though a most welcome sight.
The DB6 Volante interior is identical to that of the saloon. Unlike the earlier convertibles, the body colour is not carried across the dash.

The Kamm tail of the saloon was also to be found on the Volante although with a much more pleasing result.
