Aston Martin DB4 Vantage GT (1961 - 1963)

The DB4 Vantage was available with one very significant option - the engine from the DB4 GT - complete with triple Weber 45 DCOE carburettors and twin plugs per cylinder for the trifling additional additional sum of £350 (plus taxes).  The Vantage GT is an exceptionally rare car. The AMOC register details that three series 3 cars (technically not Vantage spec as this was introduced in series 4), five in series 4 and six cars in series 5 received the more powerful engine . The AMOC register also notes that a single DB4 Vantage convertible also received a GT engine.

The example featured above is DB4/1121/R, a  1963  Vantage GT from series 5. Finished in Goodwood Green, this car was totally restored at AML Works Service during 2000 and was presented for sale at the Bonhams/Brooks AML auction in May 2001. As if to underline the rarity of the model, the car fetched £129,100 including commission, at that time, not too dissimilar an amount one might have expected for a DB4GT.

The photograph was taken with the kind permission of Nicholas Mee at his showroom in London.
