August 2008 -
most of Europe and the US are taking their Summer Holidays,
including myself yet AM release one advertisement and a tiny amount of
information about a future halo car to be called the One-77. The press
release was extremely brief
One-77 fuses advanced technology
with stunning Aston Martin design to create possibly the world’s most
desirable automotive art form. Based on a sophisticated carbon fibre
chassis with a handcrafted aluminium body, this 7.3 litre V12 super
car will deliver exhilarating performance for a strictly limited
number of discerning customers.
Only two other pieces of info were
released - the price - £1,000,000 plus taxes - and a limited
production run of 77 examples. Potential customers were invited to
make a non-refundable £200,000 deposit.

Following a tantalising
view of the car three quarters hidden under a cover at Paris, the
naked chassis of car number 1 and a mock-up One-77 were shown at
Geneva in 2009. The un-bodied chassis didn't last beyond the press
days, but the mock-up took pride of place on the turntable until the
show ended.
The One-77 does represent
the beginning of a new era of Aston Martins, the first with
carbonfibre monocoque, and so with the absence of any guidance from
AM, I have decided to call this Carbon Architecture. |
