Friday - Pit lane walkabout

On Friday there is no on-track action at all. The teams spend all day checking and rebuilding the cars for the next days race. The public are admitted to the pit lane for most of the day to see the work in progress. Often the cars are quite hidden in the pit garages, often no more than a bare chassis. So as to give the public something to see, they arrange the body panels on the apron in front of the cars. If you look at the Italian DBR9, you can see that the team have assembled a completely empty shell of body panels - quite convincing and very effective.

Parade des Pilots, Le Mans Town Centre

On the evening before the race, many people head for the centre of town to the Parade des Pilots (that's Drivers Parade for those of you who don't speak French!). Brilliant event full of atmosphere which fills the centre with 100,000's of people, all the drivers parading round in pre-war open top cars, supercars, classic cars, marching bands and the Hawaiian Tropic Girls of course.
