Sunday early morning - 00.00 - 09.00
Extremely close racing through the night with often less than 30 seconds
between the lead GT1 car, 009, from the second placed Corvette. 007 consolidated
it's 3rd place in class until an electrical problem required the changing of the
alternator (15 minutes lost in the pit garage). Rain started about 5am and full
wets were required.

Sunday morning/afternoon 09.00 - 15.00
Many dedicated race spectators only emerge from their tents
at 9ish Sunday morning. 009 was about a lap ahead of the leading
Corvette having had no mechanical problems or contact with other
competitors. Whilst 007 had dropped to 4th following it's time in
the pits, and Team Modena was 8th in class someway down the field.
By 0900, the Lola-Aston had climbed to 11th overall and was
effectively the fastest petrol engined car on the track. |

3pm - Victory in GT1 for the
second year in a row, 13th overall
009 held onto it's lead right to the end of the race making it 2
years in a row for AMR - but this time in the iconic Gulf livery. By
15.00 the leading Corvette was just 5 minutes behind. 007 came in in
4th place (16th overall) and the Lola Aston finished 9th overall, 27
laps behind the winning Audi. Team Modena no.59 finished 8th in
class and 30th overall. |

Back in 2007 there were
six AM's to follow all in GT1. This year, four GT1's and a LMP1 -
still a wonderful turnout and plenty for the supporters to get behind.
2009 will be the 50th anniversary of the famous overall victory by the
Aston Martin DBR1 - With a little bit of luck, next year might see
AM's in LMP1, GT1 and GT2 - now that will be a spectacle not to be
missed. |
